Lesson 1 establishes a shared understanding of culture as something that is lived and experienced rather than abstract or theoretical. The purpose of this session is to shift how participants think about culture before any identity or values work begins. Instead of defining culture from the outside, this lesson invites people to notice how culture already shows up in everyday moments, both inside the organization and in how others experience it externally.

Lesson 2 focuses on naming the organization’s identity and core values based on lived experience rather than aspiration. The purpose of this session is to articulate who the organization is when it is operating at its best and to identify the values that naturally grow out of that identity. This lesson builds on the awareness created in Lesson 1 and begins shaping it into shared language the organization can orient around.

Lesson 3 focuses on translating the organization’s values into clear, shared expectations for behavior. The purpose of this session is to move values out of abstraction and into daily practice, so people understand what those values actually require of them in real situations. This lesson completes the Foundations sequence by giving the organization a common reference point for how values are lived, not just named.

Identity First is the flagship program of the CLTR Foundations suite — a facilitator-led leadership program designed to be run inside your organization, by your leadership team, with your people.
The program walks your team through the same foundational culture work CLTR uses with private consulting clients — restructured as a self-guided program your leadership team owns and runs internally. Three lessons. Three working sessions. Every piece of the program is designed so that a senior leader on your team can facilitate without a background in HR or organizational development.
You facilitate. Your team builds the identity together. CLTR gives you everything you need to lead the room.
